Do Biocidin or Olivirex Have Side Effects?
The Biocidin Liquid, Biocidin LSF, Olivirex and G.I. Detox+ products are mild and generally very well tolerated by most people. Biocidin Botanicals products are widely used and recommended by holistic physicians all over the world and have been a part of our product line since 2008. Side effects are uncommon, however mild effects do occur for some people. These can be mitigated or avoided following the 5 tips below.
Of note, if you have a known allergy, be mindful of the product ingredients. If you are a sensitive individual when starting new foods or supplements, start slow. And because strong antimicrobial supplements like Biocidin and Olivirex kill disease-causing bacteria, an influx of microbial toxins can cause “flu-like” symptoms or a “detox” effect in some people.
Remember: When starting, more is not better, especially if you’ve never used these potent products before.
What about “Flu-Like” or “Detox” Symptoms?
Most people do not get these types of symptoms, especially if they start with lesser amounts and slowly increase the amount they use. However, some people will have “flu-like” symptoms or what some call a detoxification or herxheimer reaction after starting Olivirex or Biocidin. These same symptoms are common during antibiotic use. Symptoms can include, but are not limited to: tiredness, headache, muscle aches, diarrhea, brain fog, joint pain or discomfort. These symptoms are generically “flu-like”, but they are not caused by the flu.
Because Olivirex and Biocidin are strong antimicrobial remedies and because they help bust toxic microbial biofilms, the die-off of pathogens and the breakdown of their toxic biofilms causes a release of microbial toxins into the blood and gut. This is a normal process so the body can detoxify and eliminate these toxins. However, if there’s a rapid release of toxins into the body where your body’s detoxification processes are overloaded, a “backup” of toxins occurs and results in “flu-like” symptoms in your body. These symptoms mean that the products are working, but your body is overloaded with toxins and working to catch up.
To Help Alleviate Symptoms
If your symptoms are tolerable, you may decide to push through it by getting extra rest and fluids. If the symptoms are too much, you can either reduce the dose you’re taking or temporarily stop using the product. This will allow your body time to catch up on cleaning before you begin increasing or re-introducing the product.
Get more sleep and drink plenty of fluids (like water and non-sugary drinks) as both will support your cleansing processes. Toxin binders such as GI Detox+ or Mega IgG 2000 can greatly help reduce or stop these detox symptoms as they absorb microbial toxins in the gut and escort them out of your body.
Fortunately, potential side effects can be greatly reduced or avoided by following the five suggestions in the sections below. These suggestions, and other important details about using these products, can be found inside our usage guides shown below:

Start Slowly
It’s always good practice to start slowly when taking any new supplement or remedy for the first time. This is especially true if you’re a sensitive individual. When you start slowly, if you do experience symptoms, they should be mild since you are taking less than the full dose.
So starting slowly with any new supplements is a good general rule of thumb. There are no hard-and-fast rules for how to start slowly, but your body will give you feedback if you’re going to fast. Starting with a partial dose and slowly working up to the full dose over a few days works for most people. If you’re a sensitive individual, then you may need to go more slowly, working up to the full dose over a few weeks or more. Because everyone is different, some people may need to start more slowly than others.
Be Mindful of Allergies
Always read the list of ingredients before taking a new supplement. If you have a known allergy to one of the ingredients, then you may need to avoid the product containing that ingredient, or ask your doctor if it’s wise to use the products given your allergy history and severity.
All the ingredients for each of our recommended products are listed on the ingredients tab of each product page you’ll see inside our Embrace Health Naturals product pages, which you can view using the link below.
Take Extra Care if You are a Sensitive Individual
Some people are more sensitive than others when it comes to taking medications or supplements. Children, people with chronic infections like Lyme, people with inflamed colons, people with compromised immune systems, people with a history of being sensitive to supplements or diet changes and people who are elderly should start more slowly for a few days, ramping up to the desired usage amount over time.

Handling Side Effects
It can be hard to know which supplement, food or other factor might be causing a particular side effect. This is especially true if you are taking multiple drugs and/or supplements.
If you have suspected side effects from taking a particular product, it’s best to reduce or stop using that product. When the side effects stop, you can try to start the supplement again at a lower dose to see if the side effects return or not. If they return, you may need an even lower dose, or you may need to avoid that supplement. If the side effects do not return, then they may have been caused by something else.
